Beam me down, Scotty!

Hello again, Blogonauts!

Wow! It's been nearly a year since my last post was pegged here. The smoky embers of wanderlust need some fresh fuel and puffs of air! So to set them aglow again, I'm about to skedaddle off again, heading for Scotland.

So much has changed recently. Most of you know that Toby Holmes, the man who showed me that travel was easier and more fun than I had imagined, died suddenly last month. My flights for the UK were already booked, but this trip has taken on new meaning in light of losing a close & inspirational friend.

The journey will begin in Edinburgh. The Scottish capital absolutely drips with history (along with all-too-frequent rains), and it's the home of such notables as David Hume, Robert Louis Stevenson, and James Bond ... err ... Sean Connery.

Then, in order to avoid the nail-biting experience of UK driving, I've booked a 3-day motor coach tour to the Isle of Skye, where I'll spend 2 nights in its capital, Portree. Along the drive, there will be lots of stops to tour castles and ogle scenery, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness. (Monster sightings are not guaranteed.)

Later on, my itinerary takes me to artsy Glasgow, with perhaps some daytrips thereabouts.

Finally I'll spend another few days in Manchester, England, attending again the QED conference.

This is the land of my ancestors (at least some of them), and I may find a long lost cousin. You're invited to stay tuned for the next couple of weeks to see what or who shows up between wisps of fog and samplings of whisky.

Blog to you later!

  1. Have a great experience, Larry! Some day I will tell y ou about the time that Karla Jay and I toured England when the 20th anniversary edition of our book, "Out of the Closets: Voices of Gay Liberation" was published by Gay Men's Press in London. Our trip included Manchester and Edinborough.
